Ÿ
Thoroughly tin the broken area.
Ÿ
Place the item on a steel sheet and create a mould in the shape of the missing ear using steel strip (see picture to the right).
Ÿ
Bring up to a working heat and fill in the mould, remembering to add the rod to the molten pool. Do not melt the rod directly in the flame.
Ÿ
If less than ½ the ear is gone after cleaning & tinning thoroughly, you may also use a steel bolt and two washers as a former (see picture to the right).
Ÿ
Place a bolt into the broken hole with a washer at each side and secure with a nut
Ÿ
Bring up to a working temperature and bridge the bolt with molten braze.
Ÿ
Pull back the flame if it looks like it might flow over the side. Wait a few seconds and then continue until the desired thickness is obtained.
