II. Health Hazard Information

Under normal handling conditions, the solid alloy presents no significant health hazards. Processing of the alloy by dust- or fume-producing operation (i.e., grinding, buffing, heating, and welding) may result in the potential for exposure to airborne metal particulates or fume.

Eyes:

Direct eye contact may cause irritation, redness, and pain. May cause tissue damage if not removed promptly. In case of eye contact, remove contact lenses and immediately flush eyes with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids apart to ensure flushing of the entire eye surface. Seek medical attention.

Skin:

Skin exposure may cause irritation, drying, redness, and dermatitis. May be absorbed through damaged skin. In case of skin contact, thoroughly wash with running water and non-abrasive soap using cold water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing.

Inhalation:

Inhalation of fumes irritates the respiratory tract. Symptoms from overexposure can include sore, dry throat and a metallic taste followed by a cough, chest pain, and difficulty in breathing. Bronchitis, pneumonitis, and pulmonary edema have been reported as a result of fume irritation.

Headaches, dizziness, loss of appetite, and weight loss have also been reported. The liver, kidneys, and bone marrow may be injured by exposure that is above recommended guidelines. If overexposed, remove to fresh air. Get medical attention.

Ingestion:

Seek immediate medical attention.

Flammable Limits in Air % by volume

Upper Not Determined - Lower Not Determined

Extinguishing Media:

Solid form of product is not combustible. Fire and explosion hazards are moderate when material is in the form of dust and exposed to heat, flames, chemical reaction, or in contact with strong oxidizers. Use special mixtures of dry chemical or sand for fire. Molten metal may react violently with water. Fire fighters should use NIOSH-approved SCBA and full protective equipment when fighting chemical fire.

IV. Special Protection

Ventilation Requirements:

Work in well-ventilated areas to keep concentrations below permissible exposure limits.

ACGIH

NIOSH

OSHA-PELs

.05 mg/m3

ND

.2 mg/m3

Personal Protective Equipment:

Respiratory:

Use only with adequate ventilation under engineered air control systems designed to prevent exceeding exposure limits. If the exposure limit is exceeded, use NIOSH/MSH approved respirator for fume or dust.

Eye:

Required for melt, grind, cut, or weld operations. Minimum requirement of safety glasses with side shields for these operations. Melting and welding may require special eye protection, including face shields and specially tinted glass. Grinding operations may also require face shields.

Skin:

Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.

VI. Reactivity Data

For Denatured Alcohol:

Chemical stability:

Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.

Incompatibility:

NA

Conditions to avoid:

Strong acids.

Hazardous Decomposition Products:

Metallic dust or fumes may be produced during welding, burning, grinding and machining.

Hazardous Polymerization:

Should not occur.

VII. Handling and Storage

Store material away from incompatible materials and keep dust from sources of ignition. Read and follow all label instructions.

VIII. Environmental Procedures

Steps to be taken if material is released or spilled:

If large quantities of dust are spilled, remove by vaccuuming or wet sweeping to prevent heavy concentration of airborne dust. If liquids (acids or bases) containing solubilized metal are spilled, evacuate unprotected personnel from area. Absorb liquid by means of vermiculite, dry sand, or similar material. Follow Federal, State, and local regulations.

Waste Disposal Considerations:

Dispose of container and unused contents in accordance with Federal, State, and local requirements.

IX. Additional Information

In order to comply with regulatory requirements, SARA Title III hazard categories for this product are indicated in Section I. If the word “YES” appears next to any category, this product may be reportable by you under the requirements of 40 CFR Part 370. Please consult those regulations for details.

Federal Regulations:
