Follow these 4 simple steps along with the repair techniques described elsewhere and you will have a strong perfect braze every time.
Step 1: Clean the area to be worked with file, grinder, or wire brush.
Step 2: Heat the work surface not the brazing rod until the work surface is hot enough to melt the rod, just as if you were using solder. DO NOT PUT THE ROD IN THE FLAME.You must bring the temperature of the base metal up to the melting point of the HTS-2000, as this opens the pores of the work surface and allows the braze to penetrate the surface.
Step 3: The tinning process is very important to ensure the best results. Use a small wire brush with steel bristles and a wooden handle. (Do not be tempted by very cheap plastic wire brushes as they will melt). “Paint” the molten brazing rod on the area to be repaired before building up the area. It is important that the molten rod looks like water and does not freeze up when brushing. This is done by keeping the flame on the molten HTS-2000 while tinning. (Try not to catch your brush alight; if you do, blow out the flame and continue.)
Step 4: When the work is complete, always allow to cool naturally.
